What’s New at the 65th Genoa International Boat Show
Silent, sustainable, versatile. ZF presents at the 65th International Boat Show in Genoa the new ECN transmission series dedicated to full electric boats. The new series of transmissions is distinguished by its efficiency, exceptional lightness and excellent NVH behaviour, which translate into improved electric range, greater on-board comfort and reduced operating costs, supporting shipyards and operators in the necessary transition towards greater sustainability.
In fact, the global market for electric-powered boats, which was only USD 4.33 billion in 2024, is forecast to grow to USD 17.20 billion by 2032.
A distinctive feature of ZF’s new ECN transmission series is that it does not use a hydraulically actuated multi-plate clutch (ENC = electric non-clutchable). As a result, the amount of oil supplied can be significantly reduced, as eliminating the clutch also eliminates a ‘high-demand user’. In addition, the oil pressure of the system can also be lowered.
The new ECN transmission series can be combined with all ZF marine transmissions, from the ZF 2000 to the ZF 9000. It therefore covers a power range from 650 kW to 3,900 kW.
