65th Genoa International Boat Show: a strategic agreement is signed between the two Associations

The Italian Marine Industry Association, the national trade association dedicated to the entire boating industry, and Federagenti, the Italian Federation of Shipping Agents and Brokers, signed a Memorandum of Understanding today in Genoa, on the sidelines of the Forum on Coastal Tourism held as part of the 65th Genoa International Boat Show, committing both institutions to set up a permanent roundtable, coordinated by their respective General Manager and Secretary General.

The agreement covers

the sharing of sector data, resulting from the work of their respective Study Centres

the promotion and organisation of joint conventions, seminars and conferences

the organisation of events for training, dissemination and promotional purposes on topics related to international yachting, pleasure boating and, more generally, the blue economy

consultation on advocacy and institutional representation activities.

The Chairman of the Italian Marine Industry Association, Piero Formenti

In Italy, creating a system is perhaps the most difficult thing to do, and even in our sphere we often witness the prevalence of personalism and attempts to assume associative visibility outside the real scope of representation, generating confusion about the real needs of companies and operators. This agreement goes in the opposite direction, that of recognition and respect for the respective association perimeters, of cooperation, of pooling the strength and experience of the General Confederation of Italian Industry system and the world of the National Trade Confederation“.

Boating, especially high-profile international boating, increasingly needs a synergic relationship with dedicated services, and this exchange will strengthen the analysis of sector data as a necessary tool for any industrial policy planning. I hope that similar paths can also be established with other representations,’ Formenti concluded.

The President of Federagenti, Paolo Pessina

We want to work together not only for the constant strengthening of common associative goals, but to build a realistic strategic alliance step by step that will generate the premises to enhance, at institutions as well as in public opinion, the awareness of a sector that is essential for the country, in a Mediterranean that has once again become a central hub.

“For too many years,” concluded Federagenti’s president, “the trade and boating activities, on the sea and in ports, have been separated by a wall of mistrust, sometimes of blatant prejudice. Recreational boating, and in particular mega yachts, the pride and joy of Italian boating in the world, have helped build a bridge erected on the recognition of common problems, including at a regulatory level. Today we are initiating an entirely new phase with a collaboration that is destined to produce results that, I am convinced, will go beyond the most optimistic expectations”.
