Garmin has launched Garmin Onboard, an advanced safety system that combines wireless Man Overboard (MOB) detection with automatic engine shutdown, eliminating the need for traditional kill cords.
The MOB wireless tags, designed to suit every need, can be worn on the wrist, clipped to a carabiner, or attached to a floating key ring, offering both convenience and complete freedom of movement.
Each tag can be configured to be either “commander” or “crew/guest”, allowing the response of the plotters, engine, and on-board automation systems to be adapted to the wearer’s role.
In the event that someone falls overboard, the system automatically registers a waypoint on the chartplotter and triggers an audible alarm. If the skipper falls overboard, the engine stops immediately. The skipper’s tag also allows the engine to be manually deactivated with a single action, ensuring maximum safety and control during every manoeuvre.
The Garmin Onboard system can connect up to eight tags simultaneously and links directly to GPSMAP and ECHOMAP series chartplotters. Each tag is powered by a battery designed to last an entire boating season.
