Sangiorgio Marine, the Genoa-based yard led by Edoardo Bianchi, is launching an award aimed at acknowledging boats built in the Calata Gadda boatyards in Genoa’s Porto Antico andthat are currently competing in the Transat Café l’Or transatlantic race from France to Martinique.
Six Class 40 and Musa40 model boats built by Sangiorgio Marine set sail on 26th October from the French port of Le Havre bound for Fort-de-France in Martinique.
The Musa40 series, designed by Gianluca Guelfi and Fabio D’Angeli in collaboration with Italian sailor Ambrogio Beccaria, was launched in 2022 with Alla Grande Pirelli, which Beccaria himself sailed to victory in the Route du Rhum, the solo race from Saint-Malo (France) to Guadeloupe.
Alla Grande Pirelli was followed by Andrea Fornaro’s Influence2, Alberto Riva’s Acrobatica, Pietro Luciani’s Les Invincibles, Benoit Sineau’s Ekinox, Luca Rosetti’s Maccaferri Futura and Robin Follin’s Solano. All of them, except for Acrobatica, which sank after colliding with an oil tanker in July 2024 while Alberto Riva was racing in the Québec-Saint-Malo race, are now taking part in the Transat Café l’Or.
“Seeing six of our boats lined up at the starting line of one of the most important transoceanic races was a thrill to behold and filled me with satisfaction,” commented Edoardo Bianchi, who established the Atlantic Dragon Award. “Our logo is a dragon, that of St. George but also the symbol of Genoa, so it seemed fitting to use this already powerful image to say ‘Congratulations’ to the skippers who chose our boats to conquer the Atlantic.”
